Selling Your Yacht in Grenada Made Simple

Whether you’re upgrading, downsizing, or moving on from cruising life, selling your yacht is a significant decision. Choosing the right broker can make the difference between a lengthy, frustrating experience and a smooth, successful sale.

At Horizon Yachts International, we have been helping yacht owners buy and sell vessels throughout Grenada and the Southern Caribbean for more than 25 years. Our experienced team manages the entire sales process, allowing you to focus on your next adventure while we work to achieve the best possible result for your yacht.

Step 1: Choose an Experienced Yacht Broker

A successful yacht sale starts with professional representation.

When you list your yacht with Horizon Yachts, we handle every aspect of the sales process, including:

  • Professional yacht valuation
  • Worldwide advertising exposure
  • Buyer enquiries and qualification
  • Virtual and in-person viewings
  • Negotiations
  • Survey and sea trial coordination
  • Escrow services
  • Legal paperwork and closing

To begin the listing process, we typically require copies of:

  • Vessel Registration Certificate
  • Customs Clearance
  • Cruising Permit

After reviewing your yacht and the current market, we provide a recommended asking price and prepare an exclusive brokerage agreement. While our listings are exclusive, we actively encourage co-brokerage, allowing brokers worldwide to introduce buyers while we manage the transaction locally.

Step 2: Prepare Your Yacht for Sale

First impressions matter.

A clean, well-presented yacht attracts more enquiries, photographs better, and often achieves a higher selling price.

Before listing your yacht, we recommend:

  • Thorough cleaning inside and out
  • Removing unnecessary clutter
  • Organising lockers and storage areas
  • Completing minor maintenance items
  • Ensuring equipment is operational

If you are away from the vessel, we can advise on local services that can prepare and maintain your yacht for viewings.

Step 3: Professional Valuation & Pricing

Correct pricing is one of the most important factors in achieving a successful sale.

Our valuation process considers:

  • Current market conditions
  • Comparable yacht sales
  • Vessel condition
  • Equipment inventory
  • Recent upgrades
  • Location and demand

A yacht priced correctly from the beginning typically attracts more qualified buyers and reaches completion faster than one that is overpriced.

Step 4: Worldwide Marketing Exposure

Your yacht needs to be seen by as many serious buyers as possible.

Horizon Yachts markets listings through major international yacht sales platforms, including YachtWorld and Boats.com, as well as our own website and brokerage network.

Our marketing package includes:

  • Professional listing preparation
  • Detailed equipment inventory
  • High-quality photography
  • Video walkthroughs
  • Global brokerage exposure
  • Social media promotion

For overseas buyers, we conduct live Zoom and WhatsApp walkthroughs, often lasting between one and one-and-a-half hours, allowing buyers to inspect the yacht remotely before travelling.

Step 5: Negotiation & Purchase Agreement

Once a serious buyer is found, negotiations begin.

Our role is to represent your interests while guiding both parties toward a successful agreement.

We assist with:

  • Offer negotiations
  • Purchase agreements
  • Deposit handling
  • Buyer communications
  • Survey arrangements
  • Transaction management

Our objective is to achieve the strongest possible outcome while keeping the transaction moving efficiently.

Step 6: Survey, Sea Trial & Closing

Following acceptance of an offer, the buyer typically places a 10% deposit into escrow and arranges a survey and sea trial.

Horizon Yachts International coordinates:

  • Haul-outs and launches
  • Survey scheduling
  • Sea trial logistics
  • Skipper arrangements where required
  • Preparation of winterised or laid-up vessels

If the owner cannot attend, we can provide a qualified skipper to represent the vessel during testing and inspections.

Once survey conditions have been satisfied and final acceptance is received, we prepare the closing documentation and complete the transfer process.

Secure Escrow & Final Payment

Buyer funds are held securely in a dedicated escrow account until all contractual obligations have been fulfilled.

Upon completion:

  • Ownership documents are transferred
  • Bill of Sale is executed
  • Final paperwork is completed
  • Sale proceeds are released promptly to the seller

Our team remains available throughout the process to ensure a smooth and stress-free transaction from listing to completion.
